Celebrate New Art in the Garden

Eniko Ujj

Eniko, a Gulf South-based interdisciplinary artist, specializes in mural work, conceptual sculpture, ceramics, and collaborative projects since around 2020. Commissioned for murals and community collaborations, Eniko led a highly successful project. Teaming up with spray paint artist Patty Sauces, they created a mural at the south end of the garden, adjacent to the skate park. This collaborative piece aims to bridge the skate park and community garden, fostering connectivity and engagement.

Professor Carrie Fonder & Sculpture 1 Students Spring 2024

A vibrant steel and acrylic sculpture, crafted by 12 students pursuing Bachelor’s degrees in Art and Fine Arts at the University of West Florida, under the mentorship of Professor Carrie Fonder, was commissioned for the From the Ground Up Community Garden with an HIP (High Impact Project) grant. The students collaborated with SEA Makerspace to laser-cut the intricate shapes. In January 2024, they visited the garden to gather insights and inspiration for the design, which was then installed in mid-April 2024. This collaborative effort not only showcases creativity but also fosters community engagement and reflects the spirit of the garden’s new bed design.

Kadence Fox

“I have liked art all my life but I started taking it seriously about 5 years ago. I am a Hive Arts Academy student and get to work with a lot of different artists. I am interested in all kinds of art and would describe myself as a multimedia artist. I love trying new things and getting inspired by things I’ve never seen before. I currently have work in the Luna Gallery, the Hilton, and the Fairfield Inn. I started working on these garden house murals in the Fall of 2023”

Anonymous Junkman

The artist wishes to stay anonymous, but goes by Anonymous Junkman. Junkman enjoys being creative because it’s a peaceful outlet. Junkman donates these pieces to the garden because he believe it’s a great place for community and creativity. And why wouldn’t we let that grow just like the plants? When doing art, he often repurposes things; he starts and watches it come to life. Interview by N. Cummings

Matt Black

Matt is a Pensacola artist who creates sculptures and collages using license plates. He initially explored the art as a relaxing hobby, but it has since grown into much more than he ever imagined. Matt appreciates how art initiates conversations, whether through meeting admirers, working on large projects, or creating wearable art.

HDR Team led by Phillip Walker

In May 2023, Phillip Walker and an HDR team offered assistance to the garden, with Phillip leading the effort. He visited multiple times and secured internal grant approval from HDR. Over 175 volunteer hours were invested, with 17+ HDR volunteers, family, and friends contributing. The new garden beds, resembling a mandala or labyrinth, enhance the garden’s artistic and tranquil ambiance. Completed in April 2024, this project exemplifies collaborative dedication.
